Bowling Green KyMBA Joins Forces with IMBA and Becomes Southwest KyMBA

25 January 2013 No Comment

Southwest KyMBA (formally known as the Bowling Green Chapter of KyMBA)  is excited about becoming an official chapter of IMBA. In a nut shell when you join Southwest KyMBA (SW KyMBA) you also join IMBA. Or on the otherside of the coin; if you join IMBA you will join SW KyMBA (simply follow the prompts to affiliate with our specific Chapter of IMBA).  There is strength in numbers and the time has come to leverage IMBA’s size and knowledge to move the needle on trail access for MTB’s in Southwest KyMba’s area. All current members will get your IMBA membership info soon if not already received.

WHY WE JOINED: Our vision is to build an area wide Mountain Biking destination. And with similiar vision with our cousins in Louisville the dream for Statewide Singletrack Mega Milage is underway to become reality. In our Southwest area of the State alone there are plans gaining locomotion. One Hot topic is to have the first National Park Service’s Mountain Bike built specific Singletrack Trail AKA: Big Hollow at Mammoth Cave National Park.  This is currently gaining serious momentum and put that with visions of it connecting via Greenway to trails at Park Mammoth and the Brier Creek Trail at Nolin Lake State Park amongst other properties from USACE we will amass 41 approx miles of Singletrack & connected Greenway for an Epic ride. We also have expansions happening at the flowy trails at Ben Hawes in Owensboro and a short-n-sweet Wheldon Peete Park Loop in Bowling Green. Other trails in the area looking for revitalization are Grapevine Trail in Madisionville among others. This will put our territory as well as our State on the map as the premier trail destination in the USA.  IMBA gets that and have signed up to help us achieve it. This visioning requires more than dedication by a single group effort, it takes partnerships across the community, state and country.  Alongside IMBA, Southwest KyMBA has partnered up with or has good solid footing with the NPS, State Parks, USACE, Ky Adventure Tourism, the city of Bowling Green and Owensboro. Join the dream, get on board and lets make this happen as a team!

Southwest KyMBA and KyMBALou are happy to have Andy Williamson, Great Lakes Regional Director, andy.williamson@imba.com as our representative from IMBA.
