Sal Hollow Trail Workdays

18 March 2011 No Comment

ChipTrail workdays for Sal Hollow in Mammoth Cave National Park are March 19th, April 16, and May 21st. We meet at the Maple Spring’s Parking Lot at 9am to sign in with the park ranger. Most of the time Sal Hollow is in good condition and the workdays are very short. This leaves plenty of time for a lot of riding.

The Green River Ferry Information Line to check the ferry operation status at (270) 758-2166.

Below are alternate directions for those who are unfamiliar with the area:

The access to Maple Springs is gained by driving on KY 70 west, through the park to Brownsville. Then, turn right on KY 259, and travel north approximately 8 miles to the intersection with KY 728. Turn right on KY 728 and proceed approximately 8 miles. KY 728 will veer off to the left, when it intersects with KY 1827….GO STRAIGHT onto KY 1827 until you come to the intersection with KY 1352 on the right. Turn right onto KY 1352…this will take you into the park. Take the first right inside the park, which will lead you onto a narrow, winding paved road. Continue on this road until you see the Maple Springs Trailhead parking area on your left. The latest information we have received from the Army Corps of Engineers indicates that the river will most likely be too high to operation the ferry on Saturday. But, it’s always a good idea to call ahead of time to double-check.

From Munfordville: Proceed west on KY 88, into Cub Run. At the crossroad, turn left onto KY 728. KY 728 will veer off to the right, at the intersection with KY 1827. Continue straight onto KY 1827 until this road intersects KY 1352 on the left at the Forks Country Store. Turn left onto KY 1352…this will take you into the park. Take the first right inside the park, which will lead you onto a narrow, winding paved road. Continue on this road until you see the Maple Springs Trailhead parking area on your left.
